Abstract

The education sector in Ireland faces increasing challenges in STEM education due to declining student interest and engagement. To address this issue, the Newton Project developed the NEWTELP technology-enhanced learning platform, integrating innovative approaches such as virtual and augmented reality, virtual laboratories, gamification, multimedia learning, problem-based learning, and self-directed learning. Several pilot studies were conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of these methodologies in improving knowledge acquisition, learner engagement, emotional response, and usability. The findings demonstrated the potential of technology-enhanced learning to support STEM education and increase student motivation. This study also highlights the critical role of teachers in guiding and managing technology-enhanced learning environments and presents teacher feedback collected during the Newton pilot implementations.
