Determinants of Unemployment and Poverty in Rural Areas in Economy: An Applied Study on the Abu Qurayn Region
Keywords:
Unemployment, Poverty, Determinants, Rural, AreasAbstract
This study aims to analyze the determinants of poverty and unemployment in rural areas by applying an empirical field study on two villages in Ouargla. The study used the descriptive analytical approach and collected data using a field questionnaire on a random sample of (359) participants whose ages ranged from 20 to 50 years. The data was analyzed using the SPSS program. The results showed that 84.6% of the participants confirmed that poverty prevents students from obtaining their basic educational needs, and 78.6% agreed that poverty weakens the motivation to continue studying. The study also showed that 87.7% believe that unemployment leads to delaying marriage and shaking family stability, while 90.0% consider unemployment to be the main reason for migration from the region. Additionally, 88.3% believe that poverty and unemployment are related in a direct correlation. The study concluded that poverty and unemployment in the Algerian countryside are two intertwined phenomena with reciprocal effects, each reinforcing the other in a vicious circle. This is exacerbated by inappropriate economic policies and weak investment. The study recommended the need to adopt a development program directed at the countryside, including education, employment, supporting small projects, and improving infrastructure to ensure sustainable rural development.
